The Region Bretagne
France consists of 22 Regions.
The regions were created in 1982 from a collection of territories aiming at decentralizing the State power as administration; each Region is governed by two assemblies:
The Regional council elected by direct elections which dictates the Regions politicals affirmations.
The Social and Economic Council who puts forwards recommendations on
the principal questions which affect the Region.
The Regional Council administers the reve¬nues provided by State credits and local taxes
The Department of Morbihan
It is now more than 200 years since the departments were created, there are 99 of them.
The General Council consist of people who have been elected under universal suffrage. The preparation and the execution of Council decisions are carried out by the various departmental service groups in charge of social aid, road services, and fire services.
The Prefecture of Morbihan
The Prefecture is a decentralized service, It Is a representation of the State within the departments.
This structure has its main office in Vannes which among other things is responsible for issuingresidence permits, equality of civil matters, driving licenses and registration documents.
The town hall
There actually exists in France more than 36 000 cities or towns. They are represented by the Maire, the Mayor, who is elected by members of the municipal council. The Mayor is in charge of the management of town services in the community and ensu¬ring that the requirements of the local community are met.
The Mayor also organizes local elections, he/she is responsible for the delivery of passports, identity cards, building permits and national registration of birth, death and marriage certificates.
